From what you need to bring when collecting your vehicle to deposits, insurance excess, fuel and cancellations, we’ve answered some of the most common questions below so you know what to expect before your rental begins.
How Much Is the Deposit for a Rental Vehicle?
A £300 deposit is required for all Premier Rental vehicle bookings.
Following the completion of your rental, your deposit may take up to five working days to be refunded, subject to the terms of your rental agreement.
What Is the Insurance Excess?
Our standard rental includes a £2,500 damage excess.
If you would like to reduce your financial liability in the event of damage, additional protection options are available:
Reduced Protection: £19 per day
Reduces the damage excess from £2,500 to £1,250.
Premium Protection: £30 per day
Reduces the damage excess from £1,250 to £0.
All protection options are subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions set out in your rental agreement.
Do You Offer Roadside Assistance?
Yes. An optional Roadside Assistance Package is available for £15 per day.
This includes:
- Full UK breakdown coverage
- Tyre coverage
- Windscreen coverage
How Old Do I Need to Be to Hire a Vehicle?
Our standard insurance terms cover drivers aged 25 to 75.
Drivers under the age of 25 must have held their licence and have a minimum of two years' driving experience.
Minimum and maximum age restrictions apply, and certain driving licence endorsements may be accepted. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please contact our rental team before making your booking.
What Do I Need to Bring When Collecting My Rental Vehicle?
All drivers must present a full, valid driving licence when collecting the vehicle. Please note that digital driving licences are not accepted.
You will also need to provide valid photographic identification, such as:
- A driving licence
- Passport
- ID card
Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and details of their accommodation while in the UK.
We reserve the right to request additional identification or carry out further identity checks where required, including checks with an external organisation.
Can I Hire a Vehicle with a Foreign Driving Licence?
Yes, although additional documentation may be required.
If your driving licence is written in a language or characters different from those used in the country of rental, you will also need an International Driving Permit.
Renters with licences issued by countries that are not part of the International Driving Permit Agreement should carry a certified translation.
We recommend checking the relevant requirements before travelling to ensure you have the correct documentation.
What Happens if the Rental Vehicle Is Damaged?
The hirer is responsible for the applicable excess charge if the rental vehicle is damaged.
If damage occurs, a damage estimate will need to be completed and any charges will be handled in accordance with your rental agreement and the level of protection selected.
If you would like to discuss or dispute a damage charge, please contact our rental team:

Yes. You can take your rental vehicle from the Isle of Wight to the mainland.
If you would like breakdown protection while travelling within the UK, additional cover is available for cars and vans.
Can I Take a Premier Rental Vehicle to Europe?
European travel requires prior approval from Premier Rental.
If agreed, we will provide you with our written consent and a VE103B form, which is charged at £264.
Before travelling, it is important to check the requirements for driving abroad and make sure you have all the necessary documentation for the countries you intend to visit.
What Is Your Fuel Policy?
Premier Rental vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel.
Before returning your vehicle, you will need to refill the tank using the correct fuel type.
If the vehicle is returned without a full tank, you will be charged for the missing fuel along with a £15 administration fee.
Can I Leave My Own Car at Premier Rental While I Hire a Vehicle?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow customers to leave their personal vehicles on our premises for the duration of their rental.
Please arrange alternative parking or transport to and from Premier Rental before collecting your vehicle.
What Happens if I Return My Rental Vehicle Early?
If you decide to end your rental agreement early, a charge of approximately 50% of the remaining rental payments may apply.
Returning a vehicle early may also mean that any special offers or discounted rates no longer apply, and the rental may be recalculated at the full standard rate.
Please be aware that we do not provide refunds for unused rental days.
The vehicle must also be returned in the same condition in which it was supplied, including with a full tank of fuel.
Vehicle collection must be arranged within the agreed period. Failure to do so may result in additional charges.
What Is the Cancellation Policy?
We understand that plans can change, but please let us know as early as possible if you need to cancel your booking.
A minimum of seven days' notice is required for cancellations.
Cancellations may result in the loss of your deposit or rental fee, up to £300, depending on the notice period and circumstances.
If a booking is cancelled within seven days of the hire start date, the full rental charge will be forfeited.
What Happens if I Leave Something in the Rental Vehicle?
Premier Rental cannot accept responsibility for personal belongings left inside a rental vehicle or on our premises.
If we find an item, it will be recorded and stored securely. Where possible, we will make reasonable efforts to contact you if we can link the item to your rental agreement.
Lost property will normally be held for a maximum of 14 days from the end of the rental period, or from the date the item is discovered if later.
After this period, unclaimed items may be disposed of, destroyed or donated. Reasonable postage and packaging charges may also apply if you would like an item returned to you.
Items containing personal information, such as bank cards or identification documents, may be securely destroyed or returned to the relevant issuing authority where appropriate.
