How to Obtain a Licence Check Code

Since the paper counterpart of the photocard licence has been discontinued, and pre-2000 paper licences are no longer updated, the only way to access your driving record is by generating a licence check code. This process can be done quickly and easily through the Official Government Website.

  1. Before you start, make sure you have the following details on hand: your National Insurance number, your driving licence number, and the postcode associated with your driving licence.

  2. Click Here to generate your licence check code. Keep in mind that the code is case-sensitive, valid for only 21 days, and can be used only once.

  3. Make sure to write down the code, take a photo of it, or print a PDF copy of your licence summary. You will need these details when collecting your car or van.
