Air Conditioning Servicing
Premier Motors on the Isle of Wight offers a full range of vehicle servicing and repairs to keep your car in top condition, including specialist air-conditioning repairs.
Our trained technicians have years of combined experience in air-conditioning servicing, repairs, and recharging. Regular maintenance is essential to keep your system efficient and reliable.
You may need an air-con re-gas, recharge, or service if you notice:
- The air from the vents isn’t as cold as before
- Windscreen demisting takes longer than usual
- A drop in fuel efficiency without clear cause
- Unpleasant odours coming from the vents
Most manufacturers recommend recharging or servicing your air-conditioning every two years. While it’s often overlooked, scheduling this service as part of your regular vehicle maintenance helps ensure comfort, efficiency, and long-term reliability.
Air Conditioning Diagnostics & Fault Finding
Modern vehicles are equipped with complex air-conditioning systems, often integrated with battery cooling and thermal management. Our expert technicians use the latest diagnostic tools to quickly and accurately identify issues. Whether it’s a sensor fault, a refrigerant leak, or a component failure, we’ll get to the root of the problem and put it right.
How Much Is an Air-Con Recharge?
The cost of an air-conditioning recharge depends on which type of gas your vehicle uses.
- R134a gas is most common in vehicles built before 2014.
- R1234YF gas is fitted to all vehicles built from January 2017 onwards, as it is more environmentally friendly.
- Vehicles manufactured between 2014–2016 may use either gas. A plate under the bonnet will usually indicate which type your vehicle requires, but our team will be happy to confirm this for you.
Our prices:
- R134a air-con recharge: £79.00 (inc. VAT)
- R1234YF air-con recharge: £149.00 (inc. VAT)
Every recharge includes a system pressure test to detect any potential leaks.
We also offer an anti-bacterial treatment for just £19.99, which helps eliminate bacteria, mould, and fungi that can build up in your air-con system over time. This treatment not only improves air quality but also leaves your vehicle with a fresher, cleaner smell.
Electric Vehicle Air Conditioning Recharge
Just like cars that run on petrol and diesel, both electric vehicles and hybrids will also require routine air con system recharges and servicing.
Effective maintenance of the air conditioning system is even more important on electric vehicles as the air con system is often also used for thermal management, that is, the cooling of components including the batteries and electric motors. By cooling the battery, the air conditioning system supports effective charging processes and contributes significantly to the vehicle's performance and battery life.
Electric vehicles use the same types of refrigerant gas as combustion vehicles with the majority requiring the newer R1234YF gas, however careful consideration must be given to the type of oil the system uses, with most vehicles requiring a non-conductive, wax-free synthetic oil to avoid damaging high-voltage components. Electric vehicle air con recharges are priced at £199.00 including vat.
*All prices quoted are indicative and given in good faith but are subject to vehicle makes and models. Not all models are compatible with our equipment. We do not carry out Co2 gas recharges found in some electric vehicle models.
