Accident Repair Process

At the Premier Motors Accident Repair and Bodyshop on the Isle of Wight, we understand that being involved in a car accident is stressful. Dealing with your insurer and waiting for your vehicle to be repaired can feel overwhelming. That’s why our dedicated Accident Repair Centre team is here to guide you through every stage – from your initial insurance claim to collecting your fully repaired vehicle.

What Happens When I Make an Insurance Claim?

When your vehicle is damaged in an accident, your insurer will contact us directly through their online portal. From there, our friendly and experienced Accident Repair Centre team will take care of the process for you.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Insurance Contact – Your insurer sends the claim details directly to our Accident Repair Centre.
  2. Estimate Appointment – We call you to arrange a convenient on-site inspection. Our estimators examine your vehicle and take the required photographs (this cannot be done from customer-supplied images). The appointment takes around 10 minutes.
  3. Accurate Estimate – A detailed report is produced by our qualified estimators, assessing visible and potential hidden damage.
  4. Insurer Approval – The estimate is sent to your insurer’s engineers for approval. This stage usually takes 2–15 working days.
  5. Total Loss – If your car is deemed beyond economical repair, your insurer will contact you and us to confirm next steps. If your vehicle is already with us, you’ll have the chance to collect personal belongings before the salvage company collects it.
    • If you have a private number plate, you must immediately arrange for its transfer or retention with the DVLA. Vehicles must display legal number plates when collected by salvage.
  6. Repair Authorisation – Once approved, we order the required parts. When everything is in stock, we agree a repair date with you and confirm the expected repair time.
  7. Vehicle Drop-Off – On the arranged date, you bring in your vehicle. Depending on your policy, a courtesy or hire car may be provided.
  8. Repair Process – Our skilled technicians disassemble and inspect the vehicle, carrying out structural and body repairs to manufacturer and Thatcham standards.
  9. Panel & Paint Work – New panels are fitted and aligned before being prepped, primed, and painted in our state-of-the-art paint facility.
  10. Reassembly & Calibration – We reassemble your vehicle, completing any necessary air conditioning work, wheel alignment, and ADAS calibration.
  11. Final Quality Checks – A full inspection, test drive, and thorough valet are carried out before handing your car back.
  12. Collection – We contact you to arrange collection, at which point you pay any insurance excess and sign a collection note for your insurer.
